Waddington International Airshow 2008

Waddington International Airshow, July 5th 2008

Under normal circumstances, the Indian Sarang helicopter display team or Los Halcones from Chile would have been the star attractions of the Waddington International airshow. This year, however, the much anticipated first public air display by Avro Vulcan XH558 for 15 years was undoubtedly the highlight. Not even the worst the British summer weather could deliver would put off the crowds who had waited so long to see this iconic aircraft back in the air. The torrential downpours in the morning flooded a number of exhibitor tents, low cloud meant that the Red Arrows had to call of their display, before restarting some time later and Los Halcones were forced to curtail their display. Fortunately, by the time the Vulcan began its display, to the cheers of the crowd, summer had returned and blue sky provided a fitting backdrop for the star of the show.
